Highland Park man charged with stabbing longtime Detroit DJ John O’Leary to death

HIGHLAND PARK, Michigan. – Highland Park man accused of stabbing John O’Leary.

The Wayne County District Attorney’s Office announced on Wednesday that Sean William Lamoureux, 38, is charged with one count of murder in the open air and one count of theft in a building.

Prosecutors say Lamoureux lived with O’Leary in Highland Park. He is accused of using a sharp object to fatally attack O’Leary on November 21 at the residence.

“On November 21, 2021, at approximately 12:30 pm, Highland Park police officers were dispatched to a residence on the 150 Candler Street block in Highland Park for having been stabbed. Upon their arrival, the officers located the victim at the back of the residence who died with multiple stab wounds, ”read a statement from the prosecutor’s office. “It is alleged that the accused Lamoureux fatally attacked the victim on several occasions with a sharp object causing his death.”

O’Leary, 67, had a Detroit radio career that spanned almost 40 years.

“He was good enough to go from station to station, from CSX to W4. He has built a reputation in this market as a huge Detroit music lover and Detroit personality, ”said Jim McFarlin, former Detroit News TV and Radio columnist.

Lamoureux was brought to justice by the 30th District Court. A probable causes conference is scheduled for December 7.
