Man accused of beating dog after Highland Park police received an anonymous tip

HIGHLAND PARK, Michigan. – Anonymous intelligence with Highland Park Police led to the arrest of a man and a charge of third degree animal cruelty.

Police heard that a man was beating dogs. When they went to investigate, they found a pit bull mix with a black eye, a split lip and three missing teeth. They saw camera footage of the doorbell, which shows a man repeatedly beating the dog with a metal pipe.

“He was constantly hitting the dog with that steel pole and later confessed that he was beaten a few days later with a wooden pole. This is unacceptable, ”said Highland Park Police Chief Kevin Coney.

Officers arrested Devon Lane, who has since been charged and brought to justice for a four-year felony.

The police took the dog away for medical treatment. The animal’s prognosis is not yet known.

There were two other dogs in the house which were abducted. Coney attributes the anonymous tipster to 911 for stopping the abuse.

“It will not be tolerated. We need the help of the citizens, we cannot observe everything that is going on, so if you see something, give us a call,” he said.
