Highland Park Police are investigating a homicide after finding two people dead Wednesday morning in an apartment at 1850 Green Bay Road.

Later that day, the Lake County State’s Attorney charged Barry Goldberg, 45, with two counts of first-degree murder, according to a statement from the town of Highland Park.

Additional information about the two victims has yet to be released. The statement said the Lake County coroner will report the information, and a spokesperson for the coroner’s office said The record that autopsies are scheduled for Thursday and that more information should be available by Thursday afternoon.

Goldberg is a resident of Albion Highland Park, the apartment complex in which the bodies were discovered. He was reportedly found inside the unit with the deceased.

According to a press release, emergency personnel performed a health check on the complex, noticed blood under the apartment door, broke in and discovered two dead people inside.

Goldberg was inside and taken into custody.

The cause of death remains uncertain.

Police quickly announced Wednesday morning that there was no threat to the public.

“As there is no threat to public safety and this is an active investigation, the City is unable to comment further on the investigation at this time,” the statement said. “The City will work with the property manager on site to provide support to tenants in the building.”

Albion Highland Park is considered a luxury apartment complex that opened in 2021 and is located just north of Central Avenue on Green Bay Road.
