The war on common sense hits a new low

By U.S. Representative Mike Gallagher

WASHINGTON, DC – The war on common sense has reached a new low with this insane tax and expense bill.

Bill creates a Civilian Climate Corps with more people than the US Marine Corps, grants mass amnesty to illegal immigrants, allows more new IRS agents than Lambeau Field can contain, undermines home energy production ( thus giving China and Russia a Christmas present in advance), and destroys long-standing bipartisan agreements such as the Hyde Amendment and the Work for Welfare Requirements.

The Democrats have somehow interpreted their extremely narrow majority – and their impressive losses in the last election – as a mandate to complete an unprecedented gradual transformation of our country. It is a huge and arrogant mistake.

Common sense Americans do not want this crazy bill. I implore my colleagues in the Senate to put this bill in its place … in a flaming (but peaceful) dumpster.

The reconciliation plan, which the CBO says will add more than $ 350 billion to the deficit, includes a number of sweeping policies that:

• Provide the IRS with nearly $ 80 billion for tax purposes and enable the IRS to hire 87,000 new agents;

• Grant massive amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants;

• Allow taxpayer money to be used to fund abortions;

• Set up a Civil Corps for the Climate of up to 300,000 people;

• harm domestic production of energy and minerals and increase our dependence on resources provided by OPEC, Russia and China;

• Increase taxes on natural gas;

• Extend SALT deductions to give wealthy Americans up to $ 80,000 in tax relief each year;

• Offer subsidies for electric vehicles to wealthy couples earning $ 500,000 per year;

• Create more than 150 new government programs;

• Provide over $ 550 billion to deliver the Democrats’ Green New Deal agenda;

• Create new social assistance programs that do not require work, even for able-bodied adults – at a time when there are more than 10.4 million job openings;

• Include billions of dollars in small business tax increases, which will be borne by Main Street job creators;

• Transform the Child Tax Credit (CTC) into a permanent social assistance program for unemployed children; and

• Provide hundreds of millions of freebies to teacher unions through the Emergency Connectivity Fund to help keep schools virtual.
